You’ve probably heard about the “sex offender’s register” or the “child protection register”. But not much is known in the community about what it is, how it operates, and who it applies to.

In NSW the child protection register operates to monitor and control the behavior of offenders who have been found guilty of various child related sexual offences. For more information, read our article here.

In January 2019, the Federal Government announced it’s plans for a national “child sex register”. As discussed in our earlier article, the issue is complex and several studies show that public registers do not reduce re-offending. In fact some studies show that they may in fact increase the rate of recidivism.
